Mayne Island Collective

The Mayne Island Collective (MIC) is a collaboration of 14 community organizations on Mayne Island.  The Collective works in close collaboration with the Southern Gulf Islands Neighbourhood House Society (SGINH) as part of a broader inter-island effort to strengthen community well-being across the Southern Gulf Islands.

This relationship reflects our shared commitment to reducing silos between islands, recognizing that while we all face similar challenges, each island experiences them differently. Working collaboratively with the Mayne Island Collective allows us to align initiatives, share learnings, and support community-driven solutions that reflect the unique needs and strengths of each island. This relationship allows the Collective to support vital programs and services for the Mayne Island community, while contributing to the larger goal of strengthening connections across all four Southern Gulf Islands — Mayne, Saturna, Galiano, and Pender.

Our Collaborative Approach

The Mayne Island Collective and the SGINH work together in a spirit of collaboration, not hierarchy. The goal is to support local initiatives while also building stronger inter-island networks around shared priorities such as food security, seniors’ programs, youth engagement, and community justice. By working together, we can pool resources, increase access to funding, and create new opportunities for collaboration across the region.

Looking Forward

The Mayne Island Collective is a vital example of how communities can come together to support shared priorities. As part of the Southern Gulf Islands Neighbourhood House, we are committed to strengthening this collaboration and expanding opportunities to work together in ways that benefit not only Mayne Island but all four islands in the Southern Gulf region.
